This is something new. This is an air filter cover for a K&N style air filter. I’ve thought about making those in the past, but the thing I kept getting hung up on was the need for a big mounting bolt, right in the center of the piece. If you run that bolt through the sculpture, it will completely destroy the look.

When Rich first contacted me, he was thinking we could do a traditional, Shovelhead/Evo style three hole derby cover, then bolt that to a standard “dog bowl” air filter cover. The more I thought about that, the more I kept thinking there had to be a better way.

I ended up with what you see here: I cast a “boss” on the back side of the piece, then drilled and tapped a mounting hole. A set screw with a jam nut allows for adjustment of the cover’s final position.

I’m going to make a few more test pieces using this engineering, and run one on my personal bike for a few months. If this mounting system holds up to real world use, I’ll start offering these for sale.
