Custom sculpted piece for a client who lives in Reno, Nevada. He wanted the derby cover to be personalized, while also evoking the Reno theme. We decided to incorporate a mountain background, as well as numerous casino design elements.
I really love the look of kandy paint on bronze. I airbrushed custom blended colors on the dice and the poker chips, The translucent nature of the kandy paint allows a subtle hint of the natural bronze color to shine through.
When a design has sculpted, recessed lettering like this one, I normally allow the organic nature of the bronze to deliver contrast, allowing the letters to “pop”. When I looked at this, given all the other color on the piece, I decided to fill in the “Crabtree” script. It would have looked like an oversight to leave it natural.
Very pleased with the result on this one.
